… and has risen tenfold in recent decades in the West.
IN THIS ARTICLE WE’LL DISCUSS BOTH THE WESTERN MEDICAL AND INDIGENOUS WISDOM POINT OF VIEW, AS WELL AS PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS FOR PREVENTION.
With life expectancy extending to the eighties, we Hong Kong general practitioners are all increasingly prevention orientated. Regular check-ups at your family doctor are vital to catch hidden disease such as kidney disease, which kills 90,000 in the US alone . (Unbelievably, more than both breast cancer and prostate cancer put together).
As part of our commitment to a healthy population in family practice, our nurses are doing urine and blood tests to screen for kidney disease. Call Holistic Central now to make an appointment. We are open weekdays between 9am – 6pm and Saturdays between 9am – 1pm.
What do the kidneys do?
FILTER WASTE
The kidneys function is filtering the blood and removing waste from the body as urine.
BLOOD PRESSURE
They also help to control blood pressure by the secretion of hormones as well as balancing blood sodium and potassium levels.
The adrenal glands, which produce adrenalin and cortisol, controls our stress levels, and are associated, positioned directly above the kidneys.
What is kidney disease?
When the kidneys are damaged or do not function properly, waste can build up in the body. Early stage kidney disease is asymptomatic (which means that there are no symptoms) and the only way it can be detected is through blood and urine testing.
Detecting kidney disease early is essential in order to prevent it from getting worse. If kidney disease is not caught early, it can lead to kidney failure which can be fatal if left untreated with dialysis or transplant. Kidney disease is a silent killer, with death rates in the US alone rising nine times between 1980 and 2009!
