Beat the Flu and face the New Year with increased energy and immunity
Are the holiday festivities taking a toll on your health? Are you tired of catching each cold going around?
While the holiday season can be fun, it is often at the cost of our health; staying up late, drinking and eating more than usual, and the stress of gifts, travel and family gatherings are a few examples. As a naturopath, I see the same symptoms again and again:
Tiredness and sluggishness, perhaps also associated with mild depression.
Alcohol, heavy foods, stress and other toxins can overload the liver (the body’s detoxification system) before it has time to prepare for the next party.
A congested liver depletes your body’s energy and reduces proper circulation decreasing resistance to the next cold or flu. Not only is it easier to catch infections, it takes longer to recover from them as well.
SO – WHAT TO DO?
Prevention:
For the New year, decrease alcohol by 50% just for a month. Even better – stop for a month!
Ensure that you keep fluids up (not easy in the cold weather) by drinking at least 1.5 litres water daily, as this will ‘flush out’ liver and kidneys.
A good idea is to start the day with ½ lemon in hot water; it tastes fabulous and will be immune boosting as well as cleansing. When signs of flu start, take 1 lemon twice daily.
When there is insufficient oxygen and difficulty in breathing (such as when mountain climbing) lemons were thought to be helpful! The first man to reach the top of Mt. Everest, Edmund Hillary, said that his success on Mt. Everest was greatly due to lemons.
They are also full of Vitamin C and have powerful antibacterial properties; experiments have found the juice of lemons destroy the bacteria of malaria, cholera, diphtheria, typhoid and other deadly diseases.
You can get it from our office without an appointment, however I’d love to give you further advice to help you achieve your health goals if needed.
