The Practice of Integrating Western and Alternative Medicine -my learning and experience from 25 years in Asia
Integrative medicine is a practice that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, treating each individual as unique rather than labeling them as a disease with cookie- cutter remedies. It involves knowledge of indigenous healing systems and philosophies in order to offer the best of all worlds for the patients’ benefit. More, my personal Practice bridges science and spirituality, enabling patients to reach optimal physical and emotional health. My experience has shown that to achieve permanent healing results faster, it’s necessary to go deeper than the physical, so clients can access their inner healing energy, that intuitive wisdom we know lies deep within. As physicians, we are taught to be purely science and evidence based. Although this protects the patient from ‘cranks, salesmanship and guesswork’, it speaks to the science rather than the art of medicine. perhaps at the expense of truly creative options in diagnoses, as therapeutics and drugs become the new gods. ‘Healing’ has become a dirty word, and yet perhaps what we all crave? Let’s go into this in more detail!
Becoming enlightened ~ from biology to spirituality
As a physician of many years , I am constantly looking for new ways to help my patients. New drugs and diagnostic tools are always coming up, however my persona interest lies in the more cutting edge, quantum physics type science information. What really causes my excitement barometer to rise is what cutting edge science has to say about the electro-magnetic (light) nature of our bodies.
The ‘New Frontier’ of modern medicine has to be Light. Energy is so important to us, and we all know the feeling of waning at the end of the day, or with a draining friend. Energy not only gives us our get up and go, but turns out to be the mover and shaker in each cell.
That’s because light energy is involved in the nuts and bolts of cellular metabolism, also signalling all enzymes, acting as messengers in our body. Our cells are even more sensitive to one colour over another by a factor of thousands. Very exciting recent light energy work has shown that in the heart of our cells, DNA, actually radiate Light. Energy in the form of thousands of photons – tiny packets of the smallest units of light – shines through our tissues into the environment. These tiny packets of energy are bidirectional, carrying information both from, and back to the DNA.
This is all very interesting, but the bottom line is – how can this make me healthier and happier?
Accessing the power of the heart for health and happiness:
Dr Jamieson is known as ‘The LightDoctor’, and will teach you how to tap into the love and light of your own heart… The heart truly is the centre of our being. This is something the ancients knew, but has been lost in the recent past. Now we are finding scientific evidence that the heat is more powerful than the brain, radiating out thousand times more electro-magnetic energy. We all want more energy, and this little muscular pump, the size of our fist, produces enough light energy to light a small light bulb at every beat!
As a physician of over 25 years, Dr Jamieson knows the value of connecting to our true essence, our inner core of peace and strength, as this will lead to optimal health and happiness. She will share the latest scientific discoveries, including physicists opinions on the heart’s ‘black hole’ effect, as well as holographic theory of our heart’s connection to the Earth. At Easter, focus on your heart, which has been found to radiate light all round our bodies….
Maasai Warrior Shares Wisdom on Cancer
HEART DISEASE KILLS MORE WOMEN THAN BREAST CANCER!
According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) there’s “a significant relationship between added sugar consumption and increased risk for cardiovascular disease mortality.”
The 15-year long study on 31,000 Americans, found that those who consumed 25 percent or more of their daily calories as sugar were more than twice as likely to die from heart disease as those who got less than 10 percent of their calories from sugar.
On the whole, the odds of dying from heart disease rose in tandem with the percentage of added sugar in the diet regardless of the age, sex, physical activity level, and body-mass index . A 2014 study came to very similar results.
Now we know that added sugars, processed fructose in particular, is a primary driver of metabolic problems.
Refined fructose is actually broken down very much like alcohol, damaging your liver and causing mitochondrial and metabolic dysfunction in the same way as ethanol and other toxins.
It also causes more severe metabolic dysfunction because it’s more readily metabolized into fat than any other sugar. The fact that refined fructose is far more harmful to your health than other sugars was recently highlighted in a meta-review published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings:
The average American consumes one-third of a pound of sugar per day, half of which is processed fructose. Statistics found in Dr. Richard Johnson’s book, The Sugar Fix, suggests about 50 percent of Americans consume as much as half a pound, more than 225 grams, per day!
The majority of all this sugar is hidden in processed foods and beverages, so to address obesity and related health issues like diabetes and heart disease, getting rid of processed fare in your diet is the key for success.
Hidden sugar, typically in the form of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), is in virtually all processed foods, from yogurts and sauces to breads and physio drinks.
Many favorite staples are also grain-based, such as bagels, pancakes, and breakfast cereals. All those grains are also quickly turned into sugar in your body, adding to your sugar burden.
Studies indicate that if you limit your sugar, no matter what form you get it in, you effectively decrease your chances of developing cancer—including breast and colon cancers.
Increased Cancer Risk
FIZZY DRINKS
Older women who drink a lot of soda or other sugary beverages may be at significantly increased risk for endometrial , or uterine cancer. This study included data for more than 23,000 post-menopausal women who were followed for 14 years.
Women who had the highest intake of sugary beverages had a 78 percent higher risk for endometrial cancer, and the risk appeared to be dose dependent; rising right along with consumption. Study author Maki Inoue-Choi said she was not surprised by the results,.
“Other studies have shown increasing consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages has paralleled the increase in obesity. Obese women tend to have higher levels of estrogens and insulin than women of normal weight, [and] increased levels of estrogens and insulin are established risk factors for endometrial cancer,” she said.
Previous research has also shown that dietary fructose can promote cancer growth in a number of different ways, including:
- Altered cellular metabolism
- Increased reactive oxygen species (free radicals)
- DNA damage
- Inflammation
So how does Fructose cause cancer ?
Studies have shown that different sugars are metabolized using different metabolic pathways, and this is of MAJOR consequence when it comes to feeding cancer and making it proliferate. Three years ago, researchers published findings showing that fructose is readily used by cancer cells to increase their proliferation.6 Cancer cells did not respond to glucose in the same manner.
In this case, the cancer cells used were pancreatic cancer, which is typically regarded as the most deadly and universally rapid-killing form of cancer. According to the authors:
“Traditionally, glucose and fructose have been considered as interchangeable monosaccharide substrates that are similarly metabolized, and little attention has been given to sugars other than glucose. However, fructose intake has increased dramatically in recent decades and cellular uptake of glucose and fructose uses distinct transporters.
Here, we report that fructose provides an alternative substrate to induce pancreatic cancer cell proliferation. Importantly, fructose and glucose metabolism are quite different; in comparison with glucose, fructose… is preferentially metabolized via the non-oxidative pentose phosphate pathway to synthesize nucleic acids and increase uric acid production.
These findings show that cancer cells can readily metabolize fructose to increase proliferation. They have major significance for cancer patients given dietary refined fructose consumption, and indicate that efforts to reduce refined fructose intake or inhibit fructose-mediated actions may disrupt cancer growth.” [Emphasis mine]
The study confirms the old adage that sugar feeds cancer because they found that tumor cells do thrive on sugar (glucose). However, the cells used fructose for cell division, speeding up the growth and spread of the cancer. This difference is clearly of major consequence, and should be carefully considered by anyone who is currently undergoing cancer treatment or seeking to prevent cancer.
Of course, with fruits, the benefits of most fruits outweigh any concerns to fructose. However, eat them whole, not juiced. Fruits today are many times sweeter than they were historically, and should be consumed in moderation. The real problem is the high fructose corn syrup that is added to practically every processed food and drink you see.
