Meet our BodyTalk Therapist: Angie Tourani
BodyTalk and holistic therapy allows the body’s energy systems to re-synchronize so they can operate as nature intended. Each system, cell, and atom is in constant communication with each other at all times.
Through exposure to the stresses of day-to-day life, however, these lines of communication can become compromised or disconnected, which then leads to a decline in physical, emotional and/or mental well-being.
Reconnecting these lines of communication enables the body’s internal mechanisms to function at optimal levels.
BodyTalk’s major assets are its simplicity, safety, and the speed of its results. Because the BodyTalk System allows the body’s own healing abilities to effect change, clients see long-lasting, ongoing improvements in health rather than short-term symptomatic relief. It is non-invasive, objective in application, and works effectively.
Especially good for children, in allergies, sleeping and learning processes.
How Does it Work?
The BodyTalk System facilitates communication with the body’s innate wisdom through neuromuscular biofeedback. This feedback provides the practitioner with a “yes” or “no” answer to any question that is asked of the body. The body provides the practitioner with accurate guidelines with regard to the body/mind requirements for optimum health.
By following a comprehensive protocol in which the practitioner is trained, she can establish exactly what the body needs in order to harmonize body-mind function. This involves finding out which organs, endocrine, or body parts need to be corrected to heal communication between them at the physiological, biochemical, circulatory, nervous, emotional and/or energy levels.
BodyTalk involves special techniques to integrate the neurological pathways in the brain and body, optimizing right-left hemispheric connections and so enabling us to think more clearly and respond more effectively. There are many ways in which our body’s energy systems can get out of sync, and BodyTalk can help in these cases. It is also recognized in treating stress and anxiety, or even dyslexia, autism, and ADHD.

BodyTalk for Mood and Emotional Issues
Having been a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner and Certified BodyTalk and Mindscape Instructor since 2008, it amazes me at how quickly it’s now spread worldwide. An article within The Telegraph, “BodyTalk: Could a new therapy be the answer to all your aches and pains?” shares that Obama and Oprah are reportedly both fans of BodyTalk.
BodyTalk is system of techniques that understands the psychology of the body and the influence it has on your health. Rather than focusing on the symptom, BodyTalk finds the hidden causes of illness by looking at the physical, emotional and environmental factors. BodyTalk is “whole-healthcare,” which means addressing and communicating with the whole-person and their whole-story, using the entire context of their life to improve their health.
As reported in The Telegraph, US President Barack Obama and talk show host Oprah Winfrey are rumored to be fans of BodyTalk.
Health challenges often arise for a variety of reasons. When a practitioner is trained to look at the whole-person, emotional, physical & environmental influences—the true underlying causes of disease can be addressed.
Every choice, every experience has contributed to your current state of health. Whole Healthcare synchronizes the whole-story by understanding the influence it has on your health.
BodyTalk recognizes the impact emotions can have on all the body’s systems. Habitual stress and Chronic overwhelm can result in feeling of anger, powerlessness or despair, eventually resulting in such conditions as inflammation, abnormal cell growth or bight blood pressure.
I will first focus on the mood and emotional issues in this article.
Neuropeptides and Active Memory Technique
Neuropeptides are small signaling molecules used by neurons to communicate with each other. These neurotransmitters are involved in a wide range of brain functions and help to regulate food intake, metabolism, mood, learning and memory. Neuropeptides are also related to peptide hormones. All thirty trillion cells of our body contain far more brain tissue—in form of neuropeptides—than will ever fit in our brain alone.
In BodyTalk, we call the emotions and memories stored in every cell of muscles, organ and body tissue by these neuropeptides Active Memories. BodyTalk retrieves and dis-empowers these charged emotions using the Active Memory Technique.
Resolving Emotional Stress
BodyTalk recognizes the interrelatedness of body, mind and spirit by retrieving information from emotions, consciousness and physiology. A frozen shoulder can store an unresolved hurt from a relationship (emotion), the burden of responsibility (consciousness) and spasms in intricate muscles surrounding the joint (physiology).
Using the Active Memory Technique, a BodyTalk practitioner works on the body to disassociate, neutralize and unhook emotions stored in the connective tissue. The emotions are retrieved through neuromuscular feedback to bring them out of the tissue, then are send downward to the intestines to be “digested ” and processed.
With the focus on Active Memory, even painful emotional traumas and phobias can be dealt with comfortably by the client.
Case Study: Anxiety and Depression
A physiologist refereed Nancy to me for anxiety issues. Nancy had been on Prosac for 2 years and was extremely anxious. She also suffers from insomnia due to anxiety. During the time, she was desperately trying to conceive and was trying IVF and IUI treatments to boost her chance of pregnancy. Unfortunately, two miscarriages led her deeper into anxiety and depression. She was stuck in this cycle of anxiety, wanted to get pregnant but each doctor visit and unsuccessful pregnancy makes her more depressed.
In her first treatment, I used neuromuscular bio feedback system (a form of muscle test) to communicate with her body’s innate wisdom, to identify any communication blockages in physical, mental or emotional level.
What showed up first thing in the treatment was major guilt and grief from around 10 years ago. As I spoke to Nancy about this she burst into tears, and said that was her first abortion at the age of 20. She never recovered from that guilt.
We tried the BodyTalk Active memory technique, which helped to unhook the emotions and painful memories from neuropeptides in the cells and release it to be flushed out through digestive system. In BodyTalk all treatments are done through tapping—tapping gently on head to fix and heart to store.
Next week when she came for follow up session, Nancy said that she had experienced being happy and living guilt-free for the first time in 10 years. “My husband can see the shift in me, I feel so light and happy as if a huge burden is lifted off,” said Nancy.
After seeing Nancy for 3 weeks, she felt that the anxiety dissipated to a point where she no longer needed to take anti-anxiety drugs. Her sleep had improved dramatically.
When the emotional blockages were addressed, her body was given a chance to repair and regenerate. After 5 BodyTalk treatments, Nancy became pregnant. “I am actually happy to be pregnant instead of being a nervous-wreck! I only wish I had found BodyTalk a lot sooner!” said Nancy.
